Runway Review: LaQuan Smith Spring Summer 2010/11

21-year-old African American designer LaQuan Smith’s show was easily the most anticipated show, and the hardest to get into. The new designer presented his spring collection at the Peninsula Hotel Gramercy Room. The room was filled with industry insiders like Harriette Cole, Vogue’s , designer Diane von Furstenberg, , the sexy Common, Deborah Cox, L. Londell McMillan, Elianna Placas, Fashion Director of Essence, Sarah Conly, Associate Market Editor at Harper’s Bazaar all attended the afternoon affair.Smith’s “A Story Book Path” evoked 18th century France, Marie Antoinette, and the cult of new age aristocracy.  The designer is said to be inspired by Balenciaga, and the influence is clear. Hair and makeup on point, with gilded lips and nail art that could rival any hood salon.

What do you think about Laquan Smith's collections?
