Maatano

Born to Somali parents and raised in both their native country and Washington DC, identical twins Ayaan and Idyl Mohallim are anything but ordinary. Having fled Somalia at the age of nine to escape the country’s civil war, both Idyl and Ayaan completed their college education at University of Michigan and Boston University, respectively, before making the bold move to Manhattan where they aimed to stand out from the rest in the world of fashion and design. Experiencing the industry from the ground up through careful study and practice, they slowly crafted their talent, weaving their cultural influence throughout each meticulously designed piece in their studio with only distant dreams of launching a collection.

Inspired by Africa: Tina Kalivas

Inspired by the "mysterious natural geometry that lies at the very heart of indigenous African culture," Tina Kalivas collection features bold tribal prints with a modern geometric flair. The Australia based designer studied at the London College of Fashion, worked under the late Alexander McQueen, and even designed costumes for the James Bond flick Die Another Day and Baz Lurhmann's AustraliaThe fabric used in this collection is from Ghana, view the pictures below.

Jewel by Lisa

Shadders loves Jewel by Lisa (JBL), not sure where to start, over the last three years Shadders have been closely following Jewel by Lisa and never have they failed to deliver. JBL garments are perfectly styled and her editorial pictures of her garments makes me so proud to be African. Designers Like JBL has taken African fashion to another level, being the first to embellish  fabrics with sequins, swarovski crystals and beads  makes JBL stand out from other African designers. We came across a "Jewel Afrique" spread shot by Lyndah Wells and simply had to share.

Thanks to Shop Liquorice and  Lyndah Wells [lyndahwellsphoto@gmail.com] for making these pictures available for us to reblog. Thanks a bunch
